From 1969 to 1989, the South Course's back nine combined with the North Course to host the PGA TOUR's Tournament of Champions, witnessing legendary battles by Gary Player, Tom Watson, Tiger Woods, and Phil Mickelson. This 7,000-yard parkland layout earned its place among Golf Digest's 100 Greatest Courses for 22 consecutive years (1969-1990), achieving its highest ranking of 78th and cementing its status as a Southern California classic. The winding San Marcos Creek meanders throughout, ready to catch wayward shots.
