About the Course
Ranked 78th on Golf Magazine's Top 100 Courses You Can Play in the United States, this 1980 desert masterpiece sits dramatically at the base of the Santa Rosa Mountains, where towering rock facades rise directly beside the fairways. When Pete Dye designed the Mountain Course, he prioritized views over ideal routing—a decision that created one of the Coachella Valley's most visually distinctive layouts. The signature 16th hole, a 167-yard par-3, plays from an elevated tee platform in the foothills over a field of boulders to an island green surrounded by desert rockscape, earning its place as one of the valley's most photographed holes. Dye's signature 1980s desert design language is on full display: long sand strips paralleling fairways, plateau greens perched above moat bunkers, and railroad ties throughout. Holes 4, 5, 6, 14, and 15 play so tight to the mountains that the rock walls themselves become hazards, demanding high-precision approach shots to navigate the elevated, well-guarded greens.
