Stewart Creek Golf Course
Course Highlight
Nestled in Canmore, Canadian Rockies, this championship course was transformed from an abandoned coal mine, weaving mining heritage into natural contours along a primary wildlife corridor at the foot of Three Sisters mountains, where spectacular alpine vistas meet award-winning environmental design.
About the Course
A fixture on Score Golf's Top 100 Canadian courses since 2004, Stewart Creek climbed to #29 in 2018 and earned distinction as the only Alberta club ranked in the top five provincially for 'Most Beautiful,' 'Best Conditioned,' and 'Most Fun'—this mountain course, built on an abandoned mine site, weaves Canmore's mining history and Canadian Pacific Railway heritage into its rugged geological formations. Certified as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary, it defines mountain golf through environmental stewardship. The 9th hole stands as one of Alberta's signature par-3s—212 yards with a dramatic 100-foot drop from tee to green, guarded by a pond and bunker on the left with towering peaks as a backdrop. The 4th, a brutally narrow 450-yard par-4, punishes wayward drives into dense forest while a left-side hazard turns aggressive tee shots into calculated gambles. Stretching from 7,195 yards to 5,136 across multiple tee sets, the layout challenges scratch golfers while remaining accessible to newcomers. Dense evergreens, rushing creeks, and rocky outcrops ensure every shot becomes a conversation with the Canadian Rockies themselves.
